Zigadenus (also
Zygadenus): probably from Greek
zygos, meaning “a yoke,” and
aden, meaning “a gland,” because the glands sometimes occur in pairs. (Also called
Anticlea.)
Elegans: from Latin for “elegant,” perhaps in reference to the showy flower heads
