Yellow star-grass
Hypoxis hirsuta (L.) Colville
other common names: star-grass
Hypoxis: an ancient Greek name for some plant with sour leaves, later transferred to this genus by Linnaeus. The Latin meaning of hypoxis is “somewhat acid.”
Hirsuta: from Latin, meaning generally “covered with stiff hairs”
Daffodil family: Amaryllidaceae
