Blueflag iris
Iris virginica L.
other common names: wild iris, fleur-de-lis, blueflag, southern blueflag
Iris: from Greek, meaning “rainbow,” probably because of the multitude of flower colors in this genus. Iris was the name of the rainbow goddess of Greek mythology.
Virginica: meaning “of Virginia.”
Iris family: Iridaceae
