Tall cinquefoil
Potentilla arguta Pursh
scientific name, 2008: Drymocallis arguta (Pursh) Rydb.
other common names: five-finger, glandular cinquefoil, white cinquefoil
Potentilla: from Latin, a diminutive form of “powerful,” probably applied because of the significant medical powers once attributed to another species of this genus
Arguta: from Latin, meaning “sharp,” referring to the sharp teeth of the leaf margins
Rose family: Rosaceae
